“Hear Me Out: Why ‘Deep Rising’ Isn’t A Bad Movie”

I wonder what Deep Rising might have been if, back in 1998, people actually cared about and appreciated horror movies on their own terms instead of through a lens that’s hostile to horror and everything that makes horror worth embracing. Basically, we’re at a point now where actual horror journalists have a say in what is and isn’t good, though maybe in 1998 they didn’t think Deep Rising was good, either.

They’re wrong. It’s great. Always was, and still is. I rewatched it so I could freshen up and bolster the argument I put forth in my first piece for The Guardian, though let’s be real, Deep Rising is so awesome that the argument makes itself.

You can read the full piece over here.
