I hear “it’s been a good year for movies” a lot, especially around December, but awards season rarely reflects how good the year is; smaller movies tend to get ignored because everyone’s focused on the big ones studios save up for recognition and prestige and honors. I hate that. If it’s a good year for movies, then narrowing down “the movies” to a select 20 whittled down to variations of 10, while ignoring everything else, seems like a disservice.
Well: Here I am and here are 8 movies that probably won’t get a lot of recognition in the next couple months, and I hope you dig on a few of them. Consider this an excuse to stump for The Paper Tigers again.
