I probably sound pretty down on Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping in my review for Paste Magazine, but don’t let that deter you: I liked the film well enough, and it made me laugh heartily, which is about all that I was looking for. But the laughs are mostly pretty shallow outside of the film’s musical numbers. That’s the arena where The Lonely Island – Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer – are at their best, of course, so maybe it isn’t a surprise that those moments are the moments where Popstar is at its best.
