It takes some amount of guts to make a documentary about high tension situations as those situations are happening. It takes something much, much more than guts to make a movie like Bad Axe, where the “high tension situation” is “COVID,” and you’re an Asian American living in “Trump Country,” and, well, yeah, that’s about the size of it. At most, one could knock Bad Axe‘s filmmaking for its shagginess; make that knock at your own peril, though, because man, I don’t know what kind of person you have to be to walk out of this movie and let that be your reaction.
