“The Nostalgia of ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Only Serves Itself”

My best memories of Hocus Pocus are as follows: My first couple times seeing it as a kid, when I took one look at Sarah Jessica Parker and thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world, and the time I saw it at a town-organized drive-in, back in 2019. It’s a perfectly okay movie. The experiences I’ve had surrounding it have helped elevate it.

I’m not sure there’s any way to elevate the film’s sequel, which is one of the worst things I’ve seen all year and, like so much other Disney IP, homogenized through the reuse and recycling of plot details from other Disney IP. It’s atrocious. And it has Sam Richardson in it! That should be worth one star, and…it isn’t.
