I dig on Agnieszka Smoczynska’s The Lure because, genuinely, truly, how could anyone not dig on a mermaid-musical-cannibal-glam horror movie? I guess I thought I’d feel similarly about Smoczynska’s latest movie, The Silent Twins, which feels horror-lite in the way that any movie about two mum twin sisters who live in their imaginations and refuse to talk to anybody but each other kinda feels like a real-life horror movie.
If The Silent Twins fixated more on their interior lives instead of droning on and on in the style of a biopic, I’d have liked it more. The shift between imagination, where Smoczynska shines, and reality is a drag.
