It has somehow eluded me over the years that Tim Heidecker has a music career, but he does! Imagine that! Imagine, as well, that when my editor offered me the chance to cover his latest record, High School, I just assumed it was another guy named Tim Heidecker right until I heard him start singing on the opening track; I did a quadruple take, threw out my back, and then did basic research as a reporter-journalist-critic.
What a maroon I am. I can’t think of a time when I’ve been this happy to discover a new dimension to a performer whose work I consider only in terms of the persona they’ve carved out for themselves on screen. This is the good stuff.
