I filter most pop culture, and most of what happens in the world, through the movies, or the other way around depending on the day; you’d be surprised at how many times I’ve flip-flopped in my brain watching something shot either today or several decades ago, and reflected on the ways the something relates with the COVID-19 pandemic. Or maybe you wouldn’t. I dunno.
It isn’t quite as much a stretch to relate music to movies, because the two have a relationship that dates back to the movies’ birth, and so working out this piece about the new Mitski album, Laurel Hell, was a pleasant exercise in interdisciplinary criticism.
