I’m not on the Adam Driver train with everyone else. I like him. I can’t deny that he has skill. But I also feel strongly that pop culture and entertainment journalism have made him too big too fast. He’s responsible for that, too, and let me make clear that I’m not blaming him for snapping up opportunities to work with great directors; that’s just good career sense. Still, there’s such thing as too much of a good thing.
2021 is his year, though. I guess you could argue the same of Jason Momoa (See, Dune, Sweet Girl) or Oscar Isaac (Scenes From a Marriage, The Card Counter, also Dune), but spotlighting Driver was a bigger challenge for me. I could write 2000 words about Momoa or Isaac without blinking. Easy. Driver? I had to push myself. But I’m glad I did!

PS: The STANS are coming for you. Stay safe!
The benefit of being sort-of-successful-but-not-very and sort-of-visible-but-not-a-lot is that the stans tend to miss you! Hurray for mediocrity!
