Tell Me How You Really Feel was one of my designated “best ofs” in 2018, so naturally I waited for her follow-up patiently but also not at all patiently. And here it is. And here I am, having nailed the review for Paste.
Artist’s identities are fluid. One moment, their edges are sharp. The next they’re sanded down. That’s the case with Tell Me How You Really Feel and Things Take Time, Take Time, and that’s what my review centers around. What is it that brought Barnett to the vulnerable space she occupies on this record? Long story, I bet. But it works.
