There’s something about a good folk horror movie that’s hard to resist and hard not to be scared by. Anything about the past, and about people stumbling over the past, as rooted in tradition or long-buried mores, has the effect of making something distant feel very immediate, because there is nothing more immediate than mortal fear. When a spirit or monster left in the annals of history is chasing you down through the here and now, you tend to be pretty present.
Anyway. I did another ranking, because why not, and watched a handful of really darn good horror movies along the way. You can check out the fruits of my labor over at The Playlist.
