“Ease Your COVID Anxiety with Natalie Morales’ Charming Slice of Screenlife, ‘Language Lessons'”

I’m very hot and cold on Mark Duplass; one moment I think he’s charismatic, the next he makes me want to call the cops. In Language Lessons I couldn’t take my eyes off of him and I couldn’t stop caring about him, which I feel has as much to do with his work as with Natalie Morales’ direction, not to mention her own performance. They’re great together.

I’m not sold on “screenlife” as an aesthetic. It has distinct limitations. But Language Lessons is an example of screenlife done well. You can read my review for Paste Magazine to find out what I mean.
