I’m stopping just short of describing Dark in Here, the new Mountain Goats record, as “French,” because that would be too easy given the title of the first track, and also because I think it’s an entirely “me” thing that a couple of songs here take me back to Paris, even though I don’t think John Darnielle had Paris on the mind when he wrote them*.
Whatever the case, this is a pretty terrific album, and I’m glad to have gotten a chance to let it linger in my ears before reviewing it. You can read the full piece for Paste Magazine.
