What’s the use of a film about historically significant figures when only one of them gets the spotlight? This happens more often than I’d like to remember, and given how well 12 Mighty Orphans works as a sports movie, I’m really annoyed that it happens here. Sure, Rusty Russell is an important person, to both the kids he guided as a teacher and to the great game of football*, but aren’t the orphans important? Shouldn’t they get a big piece of the screen time pie?
I reviewed this film for The Playlist out of Tribeca, and you should read more by going to that site.
