Y’know, I always wanted to make an appearance on Mystery Science Theater 3000. I guess watching a whole bunch of Bill Rebane movies is the closest I’ll get, since two of them featured on that show way back when.
Rebane made truly independent movies, the kind that you might make with friends when you feel like putting on a show; that spirit alone vaults them head and shoulders above a distressingly high percentage of 2021 releases I’ve caught recently, including Cruella, which I have no words for other than “woof.”
But that’s neither here nor there. Arrow Video released a big damn box set in Rebane’s honor. I unpacked it. Then I wrote about it. Now, you can read the fruits of my efforts at Paste Magazine.
