I’m weeks away from The Banishing, and my fondest, or at least most vivid, memory of it is Sean Harris’ performance. You might want to watch it for him alone; he’s doing this thing where he’s clearly in conversation with character actors and legends of bygone horror, but he’s so uniquely, lasciviously charismatic that it’s impossible to see him as anyone other than Sean Harris, which is just a way of saying he’s self-possessed and may one day be remembered for this role the way we remember Vincent Price.
The rest of the movie is great, too, particularly Jessica Brown Findlay’s work reminding us all that she might be the most talented Crawley sister; I can’t deny that I was just happy to watch another Christopher Smith movie, too.
