“‘Pacific Rim: The Black’: The Companion Piece To Guillermo Del Toro’s Original Film That Fans Deserve”

Following Pacific Rim with Pacific Rim: Uprising feels like finding a $20 bill, losing it, and then finding a nickel. King bummer. Bad beat. Real downer. No one’s happy. But years later Netflix is making it up to us all with Pacific Rim: The Black, which, while not in the same realm as del Toro’s original, still has tons to recommend it. I’m a fan! Generally “giant monsters versus giant robots” sells itself for me, but Pacific Rim: The Black goes smaller, and to my surprise that reduction in scope and increase in intimacy works.
