I’ll tell you, it is work going over fistfuls of movies released in a given year and figuring out which ones look the best. Not are the best, but have the best instances of cinematography in action. I think the 20 we picked out for The Playlist demonstrate the breadth of what cinematography is, which, let me tell you what it isn’t: It isn’t about moving the camera around with the most dynamism. It’s about figuring out where the camera is supposed to be and then putting it there.
