Ah, Abby Hoffman, institutionalist.
I’m giving you the short version of the opening to my Trial of the Chicago 7 review, but really, I can’t get over the divide between how badly Aaron Sorkin bungles Abby Hoffman in the film and how much fun I had with the movie itself. It’s a bullshit picture. It’s also entertaining. So goes the conundrum.
If I’m being honest, this is a fairly by-the-books biopic, but Sorkin adds enough sauce to the thing that overlooking the conventions it plays with is relatively easy. You can read my full review for Paste Magazine and then maybe see the movie and judge for yourself.
