I confess: I don’t love beating up on more-or-less objectively bad independent horror movies. I have a soft spot for movies like these, and have ever since horror became my favorite genre back when I was, I dunno, 12: Their passion shows on screen even if “passion” doesn’t translate successfully to “good filmmaking.”
So I had a hard time writing about Behind You, which is a) not a good movie, but b) driven by really neat ideas that just tragically do not coalesce into a worthwhile payoff or blend with smart storytelling. I wanted to like it much more than I did, and I hope that next time these guys make a flick, they’re able to really draw out their concepts into a better final cut.
