In general, I feel like we all have a very watered down definition of “controversy,” particularly as it pertains to the arts. It’s not every day, for instance, that people set a movie theater on fire when it’s filled with people just because they don’t like the movie showing inside. That’s what it’s like being Martin Scorsese, folks! (So when the Marvel kids came after him, I kinda felt bad for them, because c’mon, Marty can’t be rattled by domestic terrorists, much less…nerds.)
But I also feel like people get real pissed about movies for no good reason, even if they, in their pissed state, do not do crimes, and so I guess people create their own controversies. That’s good though! It gave me something to write about over at Polygon.
