I haven’t traveled the roads Leon Bridges and Khruangbin invoke on their collaborative EP Texas Sun; I’ve mostly just clung to life on the Houston highways, which, let me tell you, are neither romantic nor life-affirming in any way. If you want to find religion, just try driving in Houston. You’ll get spiritual fast.
But be that as it may, I still get the sense of what the group is going for on Texas Sun in terms of imagery and sensation, mostly because – surprise! – the album is really, really good, and Bridges and Khruangbin are really, really good musicians. I may have misevaluated Good Thing back in 2018, one way or another, but I don’t think I’m off the mark here in any way.
