Most people? They aren’t that special. They go about their days and lives doing mundane, everyday things, and that’s kinda that. Not everyone is born to be a star. That’s a good thing! Not everyone should be a star. And for that matter, the mundane can be fascinating. Just ask Agnès Varda.
My point, I guess, is that filming yourself for Instagram when you don’t really do anything exciting or worth putting on camera is a plague on pop culture, and VHYes gets at why, and how, and also when. We’ve been obsessed with filming ourselves for decades. Smartphones just made it easier to do, and then also to share.
