In my piece about the new Tsunami Bomb record, The Spine That Binds, I hint a little bit at my own nostalgia for the band pre-Kate Jacobi; I started listening to these folks back in my college days, when I listened to more punk rock and found myself won over by Emily Whitehurst’s voice upon the thrash element of the music.
So buying a new vocalist for the band sounded like a challenge to me, except, lo and behold, Kate Jacobi rules. Very different voice, but it works so well for what the band is doing on this record and I can easily imagine her owning the songs I knew so well back when I was a sophomore or junior or whatever.
