Hello: I’m a five year old boy trapped in a thirty five year old man’s body.
It’s come to my attention that I’m not the only person on the planet who thinks farts are hilarious, but I might be the only person on the planet who thinks of farts as a vessel for deep, human meaning. So when I heard tell that Robert Eggers‘ new movie, The Lighthouse, revolves around a recurring fart joke (which begins five minutes into the film when Willem Dafoe rips one right in Robert Pattinson’s face), I knew I had to take the opportunity to write this: The piece that, perhaps, I was born to write.
Whether one finds as much messaging in movie farts as I do is all in the eyes (and ears) of the beholder, but I think I make a pretty convincing case in this piece, which you can find over at Paste Magazine.
