“This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever done,” I commonly say after doing an interview. I always mean it when I say it! But that also means I’m always outdoing myself, and my last best interview is no longer my best, and I really hope no one takes offense to that.
In any case: My interview with Issa López is one of the best interviews I’ve ever done.
I can be more specific here. Even my very best interviews stand a slim chance of changing me in any substantial way, or getting me to rethink the movie I’m interviewing my subject about, or its plot. My talk with López is one of those that falls into that “slim chance” range. This is an example of two people chatting and changing each other throughout the chat. It’s kind of a symbiotic conversation, which is my favorite kind.
But don’t take my word for it. Take my article’s word for it, which really is the same thing as just taking my word for it; you can find the full piece over at Paste Magazine.
