Sometimes, all you need from a record is a good 30+ minutes of rocking out, an excuse to just bop your head along with the music and not worry about what happens when the music ends and you have to just go about your boring old business as usual. Enter: Art Brut, releasing their first album in seven years, fast becoming a trend in my music focus; their latest, Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out! invites listeners to, y’know, rock out, and rock out you will. This is a solid album after a seven year hiatus*, a favorite of mine at this point in the year, and exactly the kind of upbeat, off-kilter, totally earnest piece of work to lift spirits and fuel parties.
It’s also much, much more clever than any of this introductory blurbing gives it credit for.
