You don’t have to look very hard to find a movie where Nicolas Cage loses his shit for one reason or another, and in many instances no reason at all. But Mom and Dad, his new movie, shows him in a mode of crazy we don’t see very often – uninfluenced crazy. Yes, this is a movie about adults going berserk and making a beeline for their kids’ jugulars. No, the craziest Cage moment in the film does not occur while he’s in a homicidal rage. You’ve probably heard about the moment already if you’ve heard about the movie at all, but it isn’t motivated by insanity, which makes it all the more disturbing for its sheer abandon.
