Review: Weirdos, 2017, dir. Bruce McDonald

weirdos-poster-1

And here I go, festing yet again! This time I’m remotely reviewing a title that played at this year’s Berlinale (also known as the Berlin International Film Festival), Weirdos, directed by Bruce McDonald, who is probably best liked for his 2009 horror film Pontypool. Weirdos isn’t Pontypool by a damn sight, either in terms of content or in terms of quality; I wouldn’t say that I hated the thing, but it flirts with its ideas more than it invests in them, such that when the third act rolls around and those ideas are supposed to pay off, they just don’t. I dove into the good and the bad for McDonald’s latest over at The Playlist.
